How to Play Texas Hold'em
Objective
The goal of Texas Hold'em is to win chips by having the best five-card hand at showdown or by forcing all other players to fold before the showdown.
Game Setup
1. Players: Texas Hold'em is typically played with 2-10 players.
2. Deck: A standard 52-card deck is used.
3. Blinds: Two players post mandatory bets called the "small blind" and the "big blind" to start the action. The player to the left of the dealer posts the small blind, and the player to the left of the small blind posts the big blind.
Gameplay
1. Dealing:
- Each player is dealt two private cards (known as "hole cards") face down.
- Five community cards are dealt face up in the center of the table in three stages: the Flop, the Turn, and the River.
2. Betting Rounds:
- Pre-Flop: After receiving hole cards, the first betting round begins. The player to the left of the big blind starts the betting.
- Flop: Three community cards are dealt face up. The second betting round begins with the first active player to the left of the dealer.
- Turn: The fourth community card is dealt face up. The third betting round begins.
- River: The fifth and final community card is dealt face up. The final betting round begins.
3. Betting Options:
- Fold: Discard your cards and forfeit the current pot.
- Check: Pass the action to the next player without betting (only available if no bets have been made in the current round).
- Call: Match the current highest bet.
- Raise: Increase the bet amount, which other players must call or re-raise to stay in the hand.
Showdown:
- After the final betting round, if more than one player remains, a showdown occurs.
- Players reveal their hole cards, and the best five-card hand wins the pot.
- Hands are ranked from highest to lowest as follows: Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, High Card.
Hand Rankings
- Royal Flush: A, K, Q, J, 10, all of the same suit.
